The practice is deliberately structured so that senior engineers remain on projects rather than moving on after the pitch. We would rather run fewer projects properly than more projects thinly.

How the practice started
AMU Consultants began with a small structural team and one repeated observation: the costliest failures on a construction project are rarely dramatic. They are ordinary — a foundation designed against assumed ground conditions, a transfer beam sized before the architectural layout settled, a detail that cannot physically be built in the sequence the programme assumes.
None of these are exotic engineering problems. They are checking problems. They happen when a design leaves an office without anyone independent looking at it, or when the engineer who produced it is no longer available by the time the question reaches site.
So the practice was built around two commitments that have not changed since. Every structural package is verified by an engineer who did not produce it. And the engineer whose name is on the drawing stays reachable through construction. Everything else about the firm has grown; those two things have stayed fixed.
Fourteen years on, that approach has produced a first-time approval rate of 98% and a client base that returns without tendering.

When a contractor opens a drawing on site, they are trusting that somebody worked out the loads correctly, checked the detail against the code, and thought about how the thing would actually be assembled. That trust is the entire product of an engineering consultancy.
We have built AMU around protecting it. Independent checking is not a quality-management formality here — it is a gate no package passes without. Our engineers stay on projects through construction because a question at the pour deserves the person who made the decision, not a summary of their file.

Six gates before a package leaves the office
Our checking protocol is not a signature at the end of the process. It is six distinct gates, each owned by a different person, each recorded against the package.
The gate that matters most is the third: independent verification by an engineer who had no part in producing the design. They receive the brief and the assumptions, not the answer, and they work the critical elements independently. Where the two results diverge, neither is issued until the divergence is explained.
It costs us time on every project. It has also produced a first-time approval rate that makes the time back several times over on programme alone.
